Stanford Wong and Susan Spector (1996), in the book Gambling Like a Pro, divided 5 categories based on psychological characteristics of gambling the majority of gamblers. These five categories are:

Sociable Games

In Sociable Games, everyone will win or lose together. Gambler betting on the device or media that is determined not against one another. In this type of gambling will often encountered each other gamblers talk, laugh, or even tense. Although the gamblers always want to win, they realized that if they do not get it, at least they’ve got a good chance to try the game. Included in this category include: Dice, Baccarat, BlackJack, Pai Gow Poker, Let It Ride, American Roulette.

Analytical Games

Analytical games very attractive to people who have the ability to analyze data and be able to make their own decisions. This model requires gambling research and source a substantial amount of information and the ability to analyze a variety of events. Included in this category are: Horse Racing, Sports Betting (eg: Football, Racing Car / Motor, etc.).
